Help Create More Good Days

Libby’s Friends provides grants to families across Alabama, helping cover disability-related needs with compassion, urgency, & care.

Grant Support for Families Living with Disability in Alabama

Libby’s Friends is an Alabama nonprofit that provides grants to families caring for a loved one with a disability. Founded in honor of Libby Hagan, our mission is to ease the financial burden of disability-related needs so families can focus on care, opportunity, dignity, and the moments that matter most. Through timely support and a compassionate approach, we wrap our arms around families when they need it most.

About Libby’s Friends

Libby’s Friends was established in 2020 after the Hagan family experienced firsthand the financial hardship that can come with caring for a loved one with a disability. What began as one family’s story has grown into a mission that now serves families across Alabama with practical support and lasting hope.

The Heart Behind Libby’s Friends

Libby Hagan was born on June 14, 2014, and from the very beginning, her life was extraordinary. At just 12 days old, while in the NICU, she experienced an injury that forever changed her family’s path. From that moment forward, her parents, Lane and Kathryn, found their strength and purpose in Libby—she became their greatest motivation and the inspiration behind the creation of Libby’s Friends.

Libby lived her life to the fullest. She was a central figure not only in her family but also in her school and community, where her joyful spirit and resilience left a lasting mark. She loved adventure—whether it was a trip to Disney World, a day at the beach, exploring the mountains, or simply embracing the beautiful chaos of everyday life with her siblings.

On May 13, 2025, Libby passed away just one month shy of her 11th birthday. Though her time on earth was far too short, her legacy continues to shine brightly. Through Libby’s Friends, her story lives on—bringing comfort, support, and more “good days” to families navigating the challenges of disability.

Why We Do What We Do

Behind every grant is a family doing everything they can to provide care, opportunity, and dignity for a loved one with a disability. The cost of therapy, adaptive equipment, communication devices, mobility support, and other essentials can add up quickly, leaving families to carry an overwhelming financial burden on top of everything else.

Libby’s Friends exists to help shoulder that burden. We believe families should feel supported, seen, and surrounded by a thriving community of change makers committed to making daily life more manageable, hopeful, and full of possibility.

Stories of Support, Relief, & Hope

Every family’s journey looks different, but each story reflects the same truth: timely support can change daily life in meaningful ways. These success stories show what happens when a community comes together to lift burdens and help families move forward.

“Our family is so grateful for Libby’s Friends”

“I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generosity and support. I just learned that y’all will be covering all of the out of pocket costs for Willow’s WCR brace and it absolutely overwhelmed me with emotion.

Your kindness has truly lifted a weight off of our family. We feel so supported and not alone. This gift is beyond what words can express!
Thank you so much for investing in Willow’s health. I will always remember your kindness.”

“Our family is so grateful for Libby’s Friends”

“Our family is so grateful for Libby’s Friends. When my son was 4 months old he was prescribed a helmet by his pediatrician due to his extremely abnormal head shape caused by being born premature. We knew they were costly and wondered how in the world we would be able to cover the entire cost of his helmet. We were told to apply through Libby’s Friends and within days our son was awarded his helmet completely paid for by them. He has been wearing it for a few months now and his head is looking wonderful. We are so thankful that Libby’s Friends was suggested to us. The entire Libby’s Friends family is just a wonderful bunch to talk with and be around. We are forever grateful to them for doing this for us. Please spread the word about what they do and don’t forget to make a donation so that they can continue offering medical equipment help to others such as our son.”

“Libby’s Friends were accessible, friendly, easy to work with, and helpful”

“Libby’s Friends was recommended to us by the medical organization that helped our son get his power wheelchair. There’s no insurance funding for travel lifts or carriers for power chairs, so Libby’s Friends purchased ours for us. They got us tie-downs and a rain cover, as well. They worked incredibly fast and we had our items within days of applying.

We can’t recommend them enough for being so accessible, friendly, easy to work with, and helpful. We’re forever grateful to Libby’s Friends!”

Rachel Webb
“Libby’s Friends were there for us at the drop of a hat”

“Every once in while someone or something comes along and impacts your life in a monumental way! That is how our life has been impacted by Libby’s Friends. Our son Major is 4, fixing to be 5 in just a few short days, he has TUBB2A, hypotonia, and he is also Autistic, we have recently started an at home therapy for him, and needed quite a few important pieces of furniture for him to use, a table is just a table until you’re son with special needs has to have one, then that regular table is just not enough, Libby’s Friends were there for us at the drop of a hat. At a time when the victim mentality seems to be taking over this is a family that could have every reason to be bitter at the world, but they’re approach is “What can we do for someone else!” We are so thankful for Libby’s Friends!”

Helping Alabama Families Cover Life-Changing Needs

Libby’s Friends provides grants for some of the most requested disability-related expenses families face. These needs are often essential for care, mobility, communication, comfort, and quality of life, yet they can place a significant financial strain on households already carrying so much.

  • Communication Devices — typically around $800 to $1,000
  • Cranial Molding Helmets — typically around $2,000
  • Therapy Costs — typically around $1,500
  • Adaptive Equipment — typically around $1,250
  • Foot Orthotics — typically around $1,000
  • Tomato Seats — typically around $750
  • Adaptive Strollers — typically around $1,500

Every grant represents more than a dollar amount. It represents relief, access, encouragement, and the reminder that families across Alabama do not have to walk this path alone.

Help Us Wrap Our Arms Around More Families

Libby’s Friends is working to award 750 grants in 2026, and every donation, partnership, and sponsorship helps make that possible. When you give, you help ease the financial burden of disability-related expenses for families across Alabama and create more opportunities for care, dignity, and hope.

Together, we can build a thriving community of change makers and help create more good days for the families who need them most.
